Youth Recognition and Success Stories: The year 2017/2018 has hadmany great success stories. All of the successes below are directly related to the efforts of the County’s Youth Opportunity Centers (YOCs) which provide young adults with a wide array of educational, vocational and occupational training services including paid work experience in order to prepare them for the workplace and self-sufficiency. Johnny attended the Washington DC Proactive Youth tri, and was offered an internship with Dr. Raul Ruiz’s office for the following summer. He is working security full time using the Guard Card License that he obtained with the assistance of the WIN Center and was able to save up for his first car. He attends San Diego State University.

Justin entered theWIOA program as a high school dropout and was determined to complete his secondary education requirements by earning the HI SET credential. Justin co-enrolled in Youth Build Plus Program into the construction cohort and was able to improve his basic skills and gain hands-on training. Through a lot of hard work, Justin passed his HI SET exams and receive his HI SET credential and earned the HBI Construction credential. Justin faced many challenges throughout the program, but he continued to attend each day and fulfill his responsibilities in order to make a positive change in his life. Justin was the recipient of the Youth Build Plus Community Service Award and tirelessly volunteered in a variety of community service projects, developing his leadership skills. After completing the Youth Build Plus program, Justin enrolled into the Basic Auto Mechanics course at Mt. San Jacinto College where he still studies while working full time at a warehouse.
