Community College- Career and Technical Education (CTE) Local Community Colleges provide postsecondary vocational education or ‘Career and Technical Educational’ (CTE). The local community colleges include the Riverside Community College District comprised of Moreno Valley College, Norco College and Riverside City College. The College of the Desert and Mount San Jacinto College also provide postsecondary vocational education and are part of CTE providers. UCR Extension recently developed career and technical educational program coursework for specific target industries as well. Some of the tenets of CTE programs include: • Increasing access for learners to CTE programs through coordinated career pathway pipelines development (eg. co-enrollment with local high schools) • Work-based and contextual learning curricula- rigorous and quantifiable benchmarking Adult Education Providers (AEP) The Adult Education Providers (WIOA Title II) focus on educational programs such as GED, Adult Basic Education, English as a Second Language (ESL), Citizenry and Civic basic courses as well as other community classes. The courses are available for high school students who wish to attain a diploma or equivalency and/or adults who need to attain their diploma or equivalent for career or personal growth. Many of the AEP have also developed introductory ‘bridge’ course offerings in areas such as healthcare, basic office administration, computer technology, auto repair, welding. These courses allow students to gain basic industry information and perhaps career interest which may lead to enrollment in a local postsecondary vocational program. WIOA participants can also be co-enrolled into an AEP- GED/ high school diploma program to reduce their possibility of disqualification for not meeting minimum educational requirements during the recruitment process. The AEP providers are located throughout Riverside County. They include the Unified School Districts of: • Beaumont • Coachella Valley • Corona-Norco • Jurupa • Lake Elsinore • Moreno Valley • Murrieta Valley • Riverside Riverside County Office of Education andMt. San Jacinto College provide similar adult education offerings for their specific students. • Recognized credential/certificate attainment of local target industry • Earn and Learn models available for target industries and local businesses • Apprenticeship opportunities with local industries and business (certified)
