RCEDA 8.5x11 Report d3
Profile of Customers Receiving Individualized Career Services The County’s regional plan aligns with the vision of the Inland Empire Regional Planning Unit (IERPU) which states that the county will “prepare the workforce by ensuring that services address barriers to employment and promote educational attainment to create pathways from dependency to prosperity.” Customers complete an initial profile which includes barriers to employment. Some of these can be verified such as low-income but others such as ex-offenders, homeless or migrant and seasonal farmworker are self-reported and may be underrepresented.
Challenges to FindingWork – Employment Barriers Career Coaches served a significant number of long-term unemployed (26 weeks or more). Customers in this category may have a number of barriers to employment and career coaches are investing more time, resources and partner assistance to insure these individuals are employed. Among those with barriers to employment are Ex-Offenders and the Homeless.
Connecting Ex-Offenderswith Employment Ex-Offenders seeking services at the AJCCs often require services to establish their basic needs prior to concentrating on their career goals. Depending on when they were released from incarceration, ex-offenders also need assistance in obtaining identification necessary for employment. Of the 108 ex-offenders served twenty-five were homeless, seventy were or are continuing to receive assistance to find employment and thirty-nine were enrolled in a training program. Some of these individuals are still in school. Of those receiving assistance, 58%were from the Indio AJCC.
