WHAT WE DO

Building a Sustainable Future for Riverside County

Correctional Facility, Blythe County Administrative Center, Cabazon Fleet, Monroe Park, Southwest Justice Center, Palm Desert Sheriff Station, San Jacinto Animal Shelter, Perris Sheriff, Perris Fleet, Indio Fairgrounds, County Farm Mental Health, Hemet County Administrative Center and Temecula County Administrative Center. Riverside County EDA and Western Riverside Council of Governments (WRCOG) Electric Vehicle Partnership In 2016, the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) offered a rebate program to public agencies for the installation of Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations. Due to the immense competition for EV station charging in the downtown Riverside area and to assist with the needs of Western Riverside Council of Government’s (WRCOG) EV fleet, EDA and WRCOG decided to partner on AQMD’s rebate program. As a result, six Level 2 dual port EV charging stations were installed in the downtown Riverside public parking structures. Since January 2017, the EV charging stations have been utilized 1,187 separate times and reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 40.4 metric tons of CO2.

Riverside County EDA OpTerra Solar Project This $54 million project is in its third year of construction. In addition to five sites already finished, seven additional sites have been completed and are generating electricity: San Jacinto Animal Shelter, Ben Clark Training Center Sheriff Administration, Hemet Sheriff Station, PalmSprings County Administrative Center, Desert Hot Springs Mental Health Clinic, Rubidoux Health Clinic and Cabazon Sheriff Station. The Ben Clark Training Center Fire Administration site has completed construction and is waiting to be tied-in to Southern California Edison’s grid. Crestmore Heights is the project’s largest site at four megawatts and is currently under construction. Over the past year and half, 6.3 million kilowatt hours have been generated. Greenhouse gas emissions have been reduced by 4,494 metric tons of CO2, thus improving the air quality in Riverside County. California Energy Commission Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Grant EDA was awarded a $500,000 grant from the California Energy Commission that provides funding for the installation of 42 Level 2, dual-port Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations and three DC Fast Charging Stations across 28 County-owned facilities. Installation of the EV charging stations began in May 2017 and are expected to be completed by the end of July 2017. So far, EV stations have been installed at 13 County facilities: Larry D. Smith
